How Brands Find Micro-Influencers and Emerging Creators
Profluence · September 25, 2026
Smaller creators are harder to find than large ones: they rarely have agents, they may not appear in directories and platform search favors established accounts. These are the main discovery routes brands use, with the trade-offs of each.
Start from your own audience
The people already talking about your brand or category are the most natural candidates. Look at who tags your brand, who comments on your posts with substance and who reviews products like yours. These creators already know the space and their audience has shown interest.
Trade-off: the list is limited to people already aware of you.
Use platform search deliberately
Search inside each platform for the topics, problems and phrases your customers use, not just your product category. Sort by recent content where possible, since established accounts dominate relevance-ranked results.
Trade-off: time-consuming, and results depend on how well creators describe their own content — which is why social SEO matters on the creator side.
Follow communities, not just platforms
Forums, community threads, newsletters and niche events often surface creators before they are widely known. Who do community members recommend to each other?
Trade-off: harder to measure, but often the best route to genuinely trusted voices.
Ask creators you already work with
Creators know other creators. A current partner can often name peers with similar audiences and values.
Use discovery and matching tools
Creator databases and intelligence platforms can filter large numbers of accounts by topic, audience and activity. They speed up list-building but vary in coverage and freshness, so check what data a tool actually uses and how recently it was updated.
Profluence is one such platform, currently in beta. It builds on data from accounts creators choose to connect plus public signals, and any introduction between a brand and a creator requires a person to approve it.
From list to shortlist
Discovery produces candidates; evaluation decides between them. Once you have a list, work through What Brands Should Look for Beyond Follower Count. For the bigger picture of which signals matter and why, see our Creator Intelligence guide.
